Role overview
Hodson Bay Hotel is looking to hire full-time, flexible Kitchen Porters for its kitchen team in Athlone, County Westmeath. The hotel is part of the Hodson Bay Group, which employs more than 700 people from over 50 nationalities and focuses on building a supportive workplace where staff are valued and service standards remain high. The hotel has also recently been recognised with an Excellent Employer 2026 Award from Failte Ireland Employer Excellence.
What the job involves
This role is centred on keeping the kitchen clean, organised, and ready for smooth daily operations. The successful candidate should ideally have prior experience as a Cleaner or Kitchen Porter in a hotel setting and be comfortable supporting the kitchen team during busy service periods.
Core duties
The position includes maintaining cleanliness and hygiene across kitchen work areas, surfaces, floors, walls, sinks, stoves, ovens, grills, and food preparation zones. It also involves washing dishes, cookware, utensils, pots, and pans either manually or with industrial dishwashing equipment, ensuring items are properly sanitised before being used again.
Additional duties include helping with basic food preparation such as peeling and chopping vegetables and preparing salads; clearing kitchen waste and managing recycling where relevant; cleaning and checking kitchen equipment like fryers, mixers, ovens, grills, and cookers; and keeping waste areas, refrigerators, freezers, and storage spaces tidy and orderly. The role also requires assisting chefs and other kitchen staff when needed, including helping plate food and arranging the workspace.
Because the hotel environment can change quickly, the role calls for flexibility and a willingness to take on extra tasks across the hotel when required. Teamwork is also important, as the position supports efficient kitchen operations and a positive guest experience.
Health, safety, and standards
The Kitchen Porter must follow all health and safety procedures and help maintain a safe, well-run working environment that meets the hotel’s cleanliness and sanitation standards.

Hodson Bay Hotel promotes a people-focused culture built on mutual respect, trust, and team spirit. Staff are offered development opportunities across the hotel group, along with a range of workplace benefits.
