Java Software Engineer - UK

Role overview

This opportunity is for an experienced Java engineer to join a team focused on building robust backend platforms and services. The role is centered on modern Java development, service-oriented architecture, and delivery of secure, scalable software in a collaborative environment.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and support backend applications using Java 17/21 or newer.
• Create reliable and scalable solutions with Spring Boot and the wider Spring ecosystem.
• Develop RESTful APIs following strong design practices such as HATEOAS and API versioning.
• Plan and deliver microservices-based architectures with a focus on scalability and resilience.
• Work closely with frontend, DevOps, QA, and product teams to ship high-quality releases.
• Improve application speed, scalability, and security across the stack.
• Produce well-structured, reusable, and maintainable code aligned to engineering standards.
• Take part in code reviews, technical discussions, and architecture decisions.
• Investigate and resolve production issues through effective root cause analysis.
• Support CI/CD workflows and automated deployment practices.

Required experience and technical background

• Strong hands-on development experience with Java 17/21 or higher.
• Deep working knowledge of Spring Boot and Spring components such as Spring Core, Spring MVC, and Spring Data.
• Proven ability to design and implement REST APIs.
• Practical experience with microservices architectures.
• Good understanding of object-oriented programming, SOLID principles, design patterns, and distributed systems concepts.
• Working knowledge of JSON, REST conventions, and API security methods such as OAuth2 and JWT.
• Experience using database technologies, including SQL and NoSQL options.
• Familiarity with Git and version control workflows.
