Role Overview

The Core Finisher position supports foundry operations by preparing sand cores used in casting. This is a practical, hands-on manufacturing role suited to someone who pays close attention to detail, works safely, and performs well in a busy production setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out visual checks on sand cores before they move into the next stage of processing.
• Finish and clean cores using tools and methods such as filing, brushing, vacuuming, and similar equipment.
• Create vents by drilling openings and fitting plastic vent tubing to support proper airflow.
• Correct small flaws with patching compounds and core paste.
• Use a propane torch to dry patches and smoke cores when needed.
• Move cores from the print room and place them in the correct storage locations.
• Complete secondary inspections on printed cores.
• Keep the work area neat, orderly, and aligned with 6S practices.
• Inform the supervisor about equipment problems, material issues, or any unusual conditions.
• Work with engineers on development work and prototype assignments.
• Follow all plant safety requirements and operating procedures.
• Take on other tasks as directed by management.

Education and Screening Requirements

A high school diploma, GED, or an equivalent mix of training and practical experience is required.

All new hires must pass a criminal record check and a Government Controlled Goods Program (CGP) check. Candidates must also be able to provide three references to support identity verification.

Working Conditions

• The schedule involves shift rotation, currently Monday to Friday on morning and afternoon shifts, although this may change depending on business needs.
• A respirator must be worn when required.
• Proper respirator use depends on a secure fit to the face, so fit testing and being clean-shaven in seal areas are necessary.
• The role requires manual dexterity and good depth perception for remote handling of different materials and parts.
• Work involves standing for long periods at a station on a cement production floor.
• Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn, including hearing protection, CSA-approved steel-toed footwear, and safety glasses.
