CDU Operative

Overview

Blackrock Health is seeking a CDU Operative for its Galway clinic. The role focuses on helping prepare sterilized medical devices for use across clinical and other hospital areas, while following infection prevention, safety, and departmental processes.

Key Duties

• Support the preparation of sterilized medical equipment for use in theatres, wards, and other designated areas.
• Gather used items for processing, unless a different arrangement already applies.
• Clean trolleys and storage shelving.
• Operate the steam autoclave and other equipment used in the department.
• Assemble packs required for theatres, wards, and departments.
• Clean, decontaminate, inspect, and process instruments using washer/disinfectors and other approved methods.
• Package instruments correctly, apply accurate labelling, and sterilize them.
• Restock shelves with sterile supplies.
• Keep records in line with departmental procedures where required.
• Decontaminate used devices using both manual and mechanical methods, then carry out inspection and functional testing.
• Report any defects or discrepancies to the supervisor without delay.
• Handle and store raw material components appropriately.
• Follow health and safety rules, personal hygiene standards, and hospital infection control requirements.

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant will have prior experience in a similar position, although this is not essential. Strong communication, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, solid organisational ability, and flexibility in day-to-day work practices are important.
