Role overview
South32 is seeking a Warehouse Officer to support warehouse activities at GEMCO, an open-cut mining operation on Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory. The business is focused on responsibly supplying commodities that are important to a lower-carbon future, and it promotes a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive work environment.
About GEMCO
GEMCO is based on tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory and produces more than 15% of the world’s manganese ore. The site operates in partnership with the Anindilyakwa people, the traditional owners of the land, and has done so since 1963.
On-site accommodation is provided and includes meal services together with access to a gym, beachside workout area, swimming pool, golf course, tennis and squash courts, a sports oval, and scenic walking tracks.

Role details
This is a permanent, full-time position working on a 7:7 day/night roster. The role is FIFO from Darwin or Cairns.
Key duties
The Warehouse Officer will carry out warehouse tasks safely and with accuracy. This includes loading and unloading trucks, processing purchase order receipts, managing inventory, handling returns for repairable stock, dealing with vendor non-conformances, and completing regular stock takes.
- Report incidents, hazards, and related events accurately and without delay
- Protect inventory and site facilities to reduce financial exposure and operational disruption
- Take part in training sessions, team meetings, and discussions
- Develop constructive working relationships through clear communication and feedback
About you
The successful candidate should bring practical warehouse experience, sound judgement, and a strong focus on safety and service. Experience in mining or heavy industry warehousing will be highly valued.
Skills and experience
- Working knowledge of warehouse processes and stock control
- Strong customer service approach and integrity in inventory management
- Background in mining or heavy-industry warehousing
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, solve problems, and prioritise work safely
- Experience using SAP, which is highly desirable
- Understanding of dangerous goods handling
Qualifications
- Current manual driver’s licence
- High Risk Licence with LF and/or LO endorsement
- MR and/or HR licence is an advantage
- Working at Heights certification, or a willingness to obtain it
