Role overview

The Vice President of Project Management is a senior leadership role focused on enterprise project governance, portfolio oversight, and the successful delivery of strategically important initiatives. This person will shape the organization’s project management structure, build and run the PMO, and ensure major programs are completed efficiently and create measurable business value.

The position is responsible for putting in place consistent project management standards and decision-making processes so that corporate strategies, product objectives, and wider business goals are translated into results delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality level.

Key responsibilities

The role covers strategy, governance, execution, and capability building across the project management function.

• Define the company’s project management direction and long-term roadmap.
• Create an enterprise PMO and a governance structure that supports consistent oversight.
• Design standardized project lifecycle methods, controls, and workflows.
• Continuously improve project tools, systems, and operating processes.
• Manage the full project portfolio and assess strategic fit across initiatives.
• Prioritize projects and ensure investment decisions support business goals.
• Optimize allocation of budget, people, and other resources across programs.
• Lead major enterprise projects such as digital transformation, systems enhancements, and new business launches.
• Set up milestone tracking, stage-gate reviews, and delivery checkpoints.
• Keep projects moving toward schedule, budget, and quality targets.
• Identify, escalate, and resolve critical delivery issues and risks.
• Coordinate execution across Product, R&D, Operations, Marketing, Finance, and other functions.
• Align cross-functional teams around shared objectives and delivery commitments.
• Build clear communication, escalation, and decision-making mechanisms for projects.
• Improve overall organizational execution speed and effectiveness.
• Establish KPIs and performance measurement systems for projects.
• Track progress, costs, quality, and resource usage across the portfolio.
• Lead post-project reviews and continuous improvement efforts.
• Report project status and business impact to the CEO or executive leadership team.
• Lead PMO and project management teams, including capability development.
• Build competency frameworks and talent pipelines for project managers.
• Encourage professional project practices and certification pathways such as PMP and Agile.
• Create a results-driven project culture with strong execution discipline.
• Set up risk identification and early-warning processes.
• Manage risks related to budget, contracts, delivery, and operations.
• Ensure all project activity follows company policy and relevant industry standards.
• Protect brand reputation and support customer trust through strong governance.

Qualifications and experience

Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree or above in Project Management, Engineering Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline. PMP, PgMP, or similar project management certifications are preferred, and an MBA is also preferred.

The role calls for more than 20 years of experience in project management or broad operations management, including at least 15 years leading large, complex projects or a PMO. A strong history of delivering cross-departmental and cross-regional programs is important. Experience in digital transformation or enterprise-scale project management is an added advantage.
