Role Overview
This position is for an Urban Planner who will contribute to the planning, design, and implementation of sustainable urban projects. The role involves researching development issues, reviewing land use and demographic information, preparing recommendations, and working closely with cross-functional teams to help deliver projects that meet strategic goals and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out research and examine topics such as land use, transport, housing, infrastructure, and environmental planning.
- Prepare planning reports, proposals, presentations, and related project documents.
- Study demographic, economic, environmental, and geographic data to inform planning choices.
- Work alongside architects, engineers, environmental experts, public agencies, and community representatives.
- Help develop master plans, zoning assessments, development frameworks, and urban design strategies.
- Assist with public consultation efforts and stakeholder outreach activities.
- Evaluate development submissions and check alignment with planning laws, policies, and regulations.
- Use GIS and spatial analysis tools to support planning work.
- Track planning trends, sustainability approaches, and changes in regulatory requirements.
- Support smart city, resilience, mobility, and sustainable development programs.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, City Planning, Architecture, Geography, Environmental Planning, Civil Engineering, or a similar discipline is required.
- Applicants should have 2–5+ years of experience in urban planning, land-use planning, development planning, or a closely related area.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving capability is needed.
- Good understanding of planning principles, zoning rules, and development workflows is expected.
- Excellent writing, presentation, and stakeholder communication skills are important.
- Hands-on experience with GIS software, spatial analysis, or planning tools is desirable.
- Strong coordination and organization skills are necessary.
- The role requires the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines.
- A detail-oriented approach and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset are essential.
Preferred Qualifications
- A master’s degree in Urban Planning, Sustainable Development, Geography, or a related subject is preferred.
- Exposure to GIS platforms such as ArcGIS or QGIS, CAD tools, or urban modelling software is advantageous.
- Knowledge of sustainable development, transport planning, environmental impact assessment, or smart city initiatives is a plus.
- Familiarity with Singapore’s planning system, development rules, or public-sector planning processes will be helpful.
- Professional membership or eligibility to join a planning body is considered beneficial.
