Role overview
The Payroll Specialist will ensure payroll is handled accurately, on schedule, and in line with all applicable rules across several employee groups and specialized payroll streams. The position covers payroll for regular staff, retirees, flight attendants, expatriates, employees with disability-related payroll needs, and global mobility-related payments. It also includes handling garnishments, tax-related tasks, and updates to banking details. This role calls for strong attention to detail, sound judgment, payroll expertise, and careful handling of confidential information. If the position is carried out remotely, the selected person must maintain a reliable high-speed internet connection and a safe work setup.
Key responsibilities
- Run payroll accurately and within deadlines for regular employees, retirees, flight attendants, expatriates, disability-related cases, and global mobility payments.
- Examine payroll inputs and outputs to spot inconsistencies, confirm data accuracy, and fix issues before payroll is finalized.
- Keep payroll records current, including bank detail changes and other employee payroll updates.
- Manage disability-related payroll transactions according to required procedures, timelines, and controls.
- Process garnishments while following the correct requirements, due dates, and established methods.
- Assist with payroll tax activities, including reviewing data, confirming accuracy, resolving issues, and supporting compliance processing.
- Investigate and resolve payroll matters related to earnings, deductions, taxes, garnishments, direct deposit, disability cases, and employee records.
- Work with HR, Benefits, Tax, Finance, and other internal teams to collect information and close payroll queries or exceptions.
- Make sure payroll work aligns with company policy, internal controls, and applicable regulatory obligations.
- Support reconciliations, audits, reporting, and year-end payroll tasks to keep records accurate and ready for review.
- Track recurring problems and process breakdowns, and help improve payroll quality and efficiency over time.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with employees, managers, and business partners about payroll questions and resolutions.

Minimum qualifications

- Prior experience in payroll processing, payroll operations, or a similar function is required.
- Working knowledge of payroll procedures, controls, and issue-resolution practices is needed.
- Willingness to travel to the United States and other countries for training and business meetings is required.
- Strong focus on accuracy and detail is essential.
- Solid analytical, organizational, and problem-solving ability is required.
- The role requires the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
- Good written and spoken communication skills are necessary.

Preferred qualifications
- Experience supporting multiple employee groups or more complex payroll workstreams is an advantage.
- Exposure to expatriate payroll, disability payroll, global mobility payments, garnishments, and payroll tax work is preferred.
- Experience with payroll reconciliations, audits, or year-end processing would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of payroll compliance rules and internal control practices is a plus.
- Experience using payroll systems, reporting tools, and data management workflows is preferred.
