Description de l'emploi
Role Overview
This position is based on-site at a government-leased facility in Albany, Georgia, supporting the Marine Corps Consolidated Storage Program (CSP). The program is responsible for organizing, issuing, recovering, storing, requisitioning, maintaining, repairing, and managing equipment with full visibility, accountability, shelf-life tracking, and forecasting so that service members have the gear they need when they need it.
Operating under the Marine Corps Logistics Command, CSP serves as the Marine Corps’ centralized manager for fielded ICE, CBRN-D, STAP, and SWS&CN through a worldwide network of regional and base-level facilities. In this role, the Sewing Machine Operator carries out skilled sewing and textile repairs using industrial equipment to ensure all items meet U.S. military standards, contract obligations, and quality requirements.
Responsibilities
The role involves inspecting issued uniforms, protective items, and load-bearing gear to identify damage, wear, and repair needs. The operator performs approved repairs with industrial and heavy-duty sewing equipment, including straight-stitch, walking-foot, bar-tack, and zig-zag machines. Typical repair work includes replacing or fixing zippers, hook-and-loop closures, snaps, buttons, straps, buckles, and webbing used in tactical gear.
Work also includes modifying and restoring rucksacks, pouches, protective vests, carriers, shelter components, and other nylon or canvas equipment intended for field use. All tasks must follow contract instructions, quality control standards, and military specifications. Completed repairs must be recorded according to reporting procedures, and all assigned items must be tracked accurately. The operator is also expected to keep sewing equipment in good condition, notify supervisors when maintenance is needed, maintain a clean and safe work area, operate commercial laundry machines, and handle other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Candidates should have hands-on experience using industrial sewing machines and repairing heavy-duty materials such as nylon, Cordura, canvas, and webbing. Strong accuracy and the ability to consistently meet production and quality standards are important, along with familiarity with military uniform parts, tactical gear construction, and textile reinforcement methods. The position also requires the ability to read and follow technical instructions, repair criteria, and item specifications, as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks independently with limited supervision.
Minimum eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship, the ability to pass a drug test, and the ability to clear a National Agency Check (NAC) for base access and DoD computer system access. Physical capability is also required, including lifting up to 30 lbs, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working for a Department of Defense contractor or in a military textiles and repair environment is preferred. Familiarity with bar-tack machines, walking-foot machines, and other specialty heavy-duty sewing equipment is also an advantage.
Additional Information
This is a full-time, on-site position. The work location is Albany, GA.
