Senior Storage Infrastructure Engineer

Role overview

This position is for a senior storage infrastructure engineer supporting an Australian Government program in Canberra. It is a practical engineering role focused on deploying, configuring, optimising and resolving issues across enterprise storage systems at both physical and virtual layers inside a large, complex ICT environment.

Key duties

You will oversee storage and data platforms within a departmental data centre estate, set up and manage Storage Area Network switching, and create the design, build and operational documentation needed to keep the environment reliable and clearly understood. The role also involves handover activities, sharing knowledge with the team, mentoring junior staff, and taking part in after-hours on-call support for infrastructure and firmware updates, averaging about one week each month.

Technical experience needed

The ideal background includes proven work in designing, administering, tuning and troubleshooting enterprise storage platforms such as HPE 3PAR, Primera or Alletra, NetApp E-Series, Dell Data Domain, or Scality Artesca. You should also have practical experience with SAN fabric switching, including Broadcom and Brocade Fibre Channel switches and SANnav, in support of Fibre Channel block storage systems. Experience with Veeam Backup and Replication is also required.

Documentation and communication

You will be expected to produce clear design, build and operations documents for infrastructure processes and procedures. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, including the ability to present to staff and stakeholders and to coach other team members.

Work location and clearance

This is an onsite role based in Canberra, ACT and cannot be performed from another location. Applicants must be Australian citizens and must currently hold, or be eligible to obtain, AGSVA clearance.
