About the role
Geoharbour Middle East is looking for a seasoned, practical Senior Accountant to take charge of core accounting functions, statutory compliance, and audit support. This position focuses on accurate financial reporting, month-end and year-end close, and adherence to IFRS and Saudi tax requirements. Prior exposure to accounting practices in the UAE and wider GCC region will be regarded as a strong advantage.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and validate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with IFRS requirements.
- Oversee month-end and year-end closing activities, ensuring figures are accurate and reporting is completed on time.
- Prepare, file, and submit VAT and withholding tax returns in accordance with ZATCA rules.
- Work closely with external and tax auditors, including assembling audit schedules, backup records, and audit documentation.
- Keep the general ledger, bank reconciliations, and balance sheet accounts accurate and up to date, and clear mismatches quickly.
- Track and manage accounts payable and receivable, including tax invoice issuance and receivables follow-up.
- Check expense claims, payment requests, and reimbursement forms against internal policy.
- Ensure source documents are filed properly to satisfy local regulatory requirements and internal control standards.
- Maintain fixed asset records and calculate depreciation schedules.
- Perform variance analysis and share financial observations with management.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Coordinate with teams such as HR, Procurement, and Operations on finance-related matters.
- Keep communication channels with ZATCA active and monitor updates to relevant regulations.
- Contribute to process improvements, stronger internal controls, and more efficient reporting.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline is required.
- A master’s degree in Accounting or Finance will be considered an advantage.
- Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, or CMA are preferred.
- At least 5 years of relevant accounting experience is needed.
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS and Saudi tax rules is essential.
- Practical experience with VAT and withholding tax processes under ZATCA is required.
- Experience supporting audits and statutory reporting is expected.
- Comfort using accounting software and advanced Excel functions is necessary.
- Background in UAE accounting practices is an added plus.
- Experience in construction, engineering, or project-driven organizations is beneficial.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication abilities are required.
- Must be able to work independently and perform well under tight deadlines.
- Arabic language skills are preferred.
