This opportunity is being shared for a partner organization, which will handle all applications and the remaining hiring steps. The role is for a Science Community Lead located in the United Arab Emirates.

The position centers on cultivating an international network of scientists, researchers, and biotech supporters within a decentralized science environment. You will create spaces where scientific exchange, discovery, and collaboration can grow, especially through Discord and similar digital channels. The job combines community management, science communication, and event facilitation, with a strong focus on building connections between established researchers and new voices in biotechnology. It is a hands-on, imaginative role for someone who is enthusiastic about life sciences and enjoys shaping large-scale online scientific communities.

What you will do

• Set up, run, and expand online science communities, with Discord as the main platform, including channel organization, onboarding journeys, bot setup, and participation systems.
• Plan and lead community activities such as AMAs, journal clubs, voice conversations, and live virtual sessions.
• Create and deliver programming that motivates members to take part, showcase research, and collaborate with one another.
• Find scientists, researchers, and rising voices in the field and bring them into the community to support networking and knowledge exchange.
• Oversee discussions to ensure the community remains friendly, inclusive, and high quality.
• Measure engagement, test new ideas, and refine initiatives to strengthen community activity and health.

What we are looking for

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a closely related scientific discipline.
• Hands-on familiarity with online communities, especially Discord, Reddit, and/or X (Twitter), with prior moderation experience seen as an advantage.
• Strong writing ability with a tone that feels approachable, clear, and engaging.
• Comfortable speaking and facilitating live events, voice chats, and interactive sessions.
• Well-developed planning and multitasking skills for handling several initiatives at once.
• A proactive, experimental mindset with the willingness to test, learn, and improve community strategies.
• Strong interest in biotechnology, life sciences, and research-focused communities.
