Description de l'emploi
Role overview
Together Housing Group is looking for an experienced roofer to join its repairs team in Blackburn and Darwen. The role focuses on carrying out efficient maintenance and repair work across the organisation’s homes, with an emphasis on quality workmanship, safe working, and strong customer service.
The organisation manages more than 38,000 homes across the North of England and operates as a not-for-profit provider, so any surplus is reinvested into the business for the benefit of residents and local communities.
The role is based across multiple locations, including Blackburn, Darwen, Accrington, and Preston.
Key duties
- Complete a full range of roofing repairs on occupied and empty homes, making sure the work meets job instructions, specifications, and relevant building regulations.
- Adopt a first-time-fix approach wherever possible, aiming to resolve issues in a single visit while maintaining a consistently high standard of work.
- Estimate and measure the materials required so purchasing is accurate and resources are used efficiently.
- Provide a high level of tenant care by protecting homes, clearing up after the job, and communicating in a courteous, professional, and helpful way.
- Carry out risk assessments before beginning work to protect your own safety and the safety of colleagues, tenants, and the public.
- Identify faults quickly and complete repairs effectively, using time and materials wisely.
- Look after company vehicles, tools, and materials by keeping them secure, clean, and well maintained, and reporting defects according to policy.
Candidate profile
The ideal candidate will have practical experience across roofing and building repair work, along with a strong record of customer service and satisfaction. You should be able to work efficiently, preferably resolving repairs in one visit where possible, and have a good understanding of health and safety requirements for maintenance work.
Basic IT and mobile device skills are needed for handling work orders and communication, along with solid literacy and numeracy for accurately completing job tickets. The ability to support related trades, such as plastering, is also important.
A relevant roofing qualification such as a City & Guilds Advanced Craft Certificate in Roofing, or an equivalent qualification at NVQ Level 2 or above, is preferred.
Employment details
This is a part-time, on-site position. The role is 37 hours per week, scheduled between 08:00 and 19:30 across any five days from Monday to Saturday, depending on business needs. A typical pattern may run from Monday to Thursday, 08:00 to 16:00, and Friday, 08:00 to 15:30, although this can change based on operational requirements.
Benefits
- Annual salary starting at £33,758.
- Company van available for personal use.
- 27 days of holiday, increasing to 32 days after 5 years of service, plus bank holidays.
- Access to an attractive pension arrangement through the Local Government Pension Scheme.
Additional information
Together Housing Group is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce and welcomes applications from candidates with any of the nine protected characteristics. The organisation is also a Disability Confident employer.
The vacancy may close early if enough suitable applications are received, so early submission is encouraged. Applicants should complete the application form in full.
Because the role involves working with vulnerable people, the appointment is subject to a full criminal disclosure check, completed once a conditional offer has been made.
