About the role
Bathurst Regional Council is looking for an energetic and community-focused Ranger to join its team. In this role, you will help uphold Council’s regulatory responsibilities while delivering a high level of service to the public. A key part of the job is making sure controls are applied under the Companion Animals Act 1998, the Local Government Act 1993, and the Australian Road Rules 2014.
Role details
This is a permanent full-time position of 38 hours per week. A rostered day off is provided every second week. The role also involves working some weekends and being available for on-call duties on a rotating roster.
What the role involves
The successful candidate should be confident working with animals and handling challenging customer interactions. The position also requires adaptability and a strong ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Essential criteria
- Current Class C NSW Driver’s Licence
- HSC or equivalent experience gained in a relevant field
- Understanding of compliance and enforcement work in a local government setting, particularly the Road Rules Act 2014 and the Companion Animals Act 1998
- Ability to interpret, apply and enforce legislation, policies and guidelines
- Experience conducting investigations and gathering evidence from different sources to support decisions
- Strong people skills, including conflict resolution, consultation, negotiation and customer service
- Clear written communication skills, including the ability to complete forms, keep accurate records and prepare investigative reports or similar documents for legal proceedings
- Demonstrated experience handling animals
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision

Additional requirements
Applicants must be willing to undergo a criminal history check and a pre-employment health assessment. The health screening includes functional, hearing and drug and alcohol testing.
Working hours and pay
The standard schedule is Monday to Friday from 7:45am to 4:42pm, with on-call responsibilities on a rotating roster. The advertised salary is $1,511.55 to $1,588.07 per week, plus superannuation and an on-call allowance where applicable.
