About the role
SpaceX is seeking a Proposal Specialist to support the full lifecycle of competitive bid responses, from the moment customer requirements are released through final contract award. In this position, you will help craft proposals for opportunities across launch and Starlink services, turning complex technical and business information into clear, persuasive materials that highlight the value of SpaceX’s evolving technologies and offerings.
You will coordinate input from technical and business stakeholders, shape text to address specific customer needs, and produce polished final documents with strong visual presentation. The role calls for initiative, flexibility, reliability, and a high level of energy to support documents that reflect SpaceX’s pace and standards.
Responsibilities
- Interpret and communicate highly detailed requirements for new customer opportunities.
- Build proposal timelines and keep work moving against deadlines.
- Create proposal outlines and structure response content.
- Coordinate section contributors across teams, while setting expectations and enforcing due dates.
- Partner with technical teams to collect and develop information for commercial and government proposals.
- Turn ideas and strategy into persuasive executive summaries and opportunity-specific proposal language.
- Resolve open questions related to proposal content, visuals, figures, and tables with technical and business partners.
- Identify and develop graphics that strengthen the proposal.
- Revise, rewrite, and refine content to improve clarity, flow, and readability.
- Verify facts and surface technical inaccuracies.
- Proofread for grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Ensure all materials follow company formatting and editorial standards.
- Confirm proposals satisfy customer submission instructions.
- Move documents through review and approval workflows.
- Prepare final files for printing, produce copies, and arrange delivery as needed.
- Help improve templates, tools, and the broader proposal development process.
- Maintain a reusable library of commonly used proposal content.
- Support Mission Management, Sales, and other internal teams with writing, editing, publishing, and communications needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in publishing and/or editing documents.
- Degree background in journalism, English, technical writing, or professional writing is preferred.
- Experience with proposal writing or grant writing is preferred.
- Experience preparing documents for publication in Microsoft Office 2016 or newer is preferred.
- Ability, or strong potential, to contribute to proposal strategy is preferred.
- Knowledge of government or commercial proposals is preferred.
- Experience writing headlines or captions is preferred.
- Comfort following editorial style guidelines is preferred.
- Strong command of language, including tone and nuance, is preferred.
- Ability to work effectively under both short-term and long-term deadline pressure is preferred.
- Proven success in planning and completing projects over different time horizons is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership, influence, and collaboration abilities are preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail are preferred.
- Basic understanding of SpaceX’s mission, business model, and competitors is preferred.
- Must be able to work extended hours or weekends when mission-critical deadlines require it.
- This position is expected to be onsite when not traveling for work events or functions; remote or hybrid arrangements are not considered.

Compensation and benefits
The role includes a base salary range that varies by level:
- Level 1: $80,000 to $100,000
- Level 2: $95,000 to $125,000
Actual level and pay depend on job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience. The total rewards package may also include long-term incentives such as company stock or long-term cash awards, potential discretionary bonuses, and the option to buy additional stock at a discount through an employee stock purchase plan.
Additional benefits may include medical, vision, and dental coverage; a 401(k) retirement plan; short- and long-term disability insurance; life insurance; paid parental leave; and other discounts and perks. Employees may accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and are eligible for 10 or more paid holidays each year. Paid sick leave is provided according to company policy and applicable law.
ITAR requirements
To comply with U.S. government export rules, applicants must be one of the following: a U.S. citizen or national, a lawful permanent resident (green card holder), a refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157, or an asylee under 8 U.S.C. 1158; alternatively, they must be eligible to obtain the necessary authorization from the U.S. Department of State.
