Procurement Specialist

Role overview

This is a newly created Procurement Specialist position focused on building a local procurement capability from the ground up for the material handling equipment sector. The role will shape category strategy, supplier relationships, and commercial processes while supporting the company’s growth plans.

Procurement responsibilities

• Set up the procurement structure, operating procedures, and governance for the new function.
• Create and execute sourcing plans for locally sourced material handling equipment categories such as OEM parts, components, equipment, consumables, and service agreements.
• Source, assess, and onboard suppliers based on safety, quality, cost, delivery, sustainability, and compliance standards.
• Run RFx exercises, negotiate pricing, and put in place framework agreements aligned with company procurement policies.
• Build procurement KPIs, reporting dashboards, and supplier scorecards from the outset.
• Work with Sales, Customer Service, Asset Management, Workshop, Finance, and Legal teams to capture requirements and technical needs.
• Support CAPEX planning and procurement, including tendering for major infrastructure, technology, and commodity projects.
• Advance sustainability, local sourcing, and risk-reduction initiatives in line with company values.
• Promote digital tools and automation to improve scalability and transparency.
• Track and report strategic procurement savings and related impact assessments.

Supplier management

• Develop vendor management programs to evaluate supplier risk, performance, and improvement opportunities.
• Define KPIs and present them through dashboards.
• Manage vendors and service contracts to ensure agreed contractual obligations are met.
• Create a local planning and reporting framework.
• Build internal procedures for handling supplier underperformance within the local supply chain.
• Act as the main contact for vendor performance issues and help drive resolution.

Skills and qualifications

The role calls for a degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or a similar discipline, along with at least 5 years of procurement experience, preferably in industrial, engineering, or heavy equipment environments. A data-led mindset is essential, together with strong capability in building procurement functions, processes, and supplier ecosystems from the beginning.

Success in this role also depends on solid negotiation, supplier management, and contract development experience. Familiarity with material handling equipment components, service models, and technical supplier networks is beneficial. Hands-on experience with SAP, other ERP or procurement platforms, and Microsoft 365 is important.

The ideal candidate should be self-driven, analytical, well organized, comfortable managing multiple priorities, and attentive to detail. Strong project management and contract administration skills, good interpersonal ability, independent judgment, structured problem-solving, and the confidence to influence internal and external stakeholders are all key.
