Description de l'emploi
Role overview
The Design Engineer for Primary Engineering will handle the preparation, review, and execution of primary engineering work for substation projects, following guidance from the Design Lead. The role calls for solid expertise in substation layout engineering and support for BIM 3D model development with the modelling team.
This position also involves developing substation layouts and sharing inputs with drafting teams so that drawings can be produced accurately and on time.
Key responsibilities
- Check drawings prepared by the drafting team within the required timelines.
- Liaise with site execution and cluster teams to resolve queries related to equipment design.
- Work with cross-functional teams and support inter-department reviews involving Civil & Structural, MEP, and Instrumentation to secure design concurrence.
- Make sure all design outputs meet specification requirements.
- Review 2D and 3D drawings and related documentation in line with quality system standards.
- Examine vendor quotations and technical documents.
- Carry out pre-tender engineering activities, including bill of materials estimation and offer evaluation.
- Prepare design and sizing calculations for substation equipment such as busbars, UPS, DG, LT transformers, and earthing conductors, along with other calculations like short-circuit force and sag tension.
- Review the bill of materials and compare it against tender quantities.
Technical expertise
The role requires a thorough command of primary engineering tasks such as single-line diagram preparation, layout engineering, earthing, cable routing, lighting, lightning protection, and cable tray routing. The engineer should also be able to perform sizing and design calculations for busbars, UPS, DG, LT transformers, and earthing conductors, as well as calculations related to short-circuit force and sag tension.
A working understanding of relevant national and international codes, standards, and interdisciplinary design coordination across Civil & Structural, Mechanical, and Instrumentation functions is also essential.
