Description de l'emploi

About the Role

Via is building modern public transit infrastructure that expands access to work, healthcare, and education. Its platform powers transit operations by replacing outdated, disconnected systems with smart, data-led digital networks used by agency partners across the world.

In this position, you will take full ownership of the payroll cycle for more than 900 hourly employees in Germany. The role is central to ensuring employees are paid correctly, compliantly, and on schedule every month as the company grows across Europe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run the full monthly payroll cycle for Via Germany, working closely with the external payroll provider as well as internal Finance, People, and Operations teams to ensure accurate and timely processing.
  • Track updates in German payroll, tax, and labor regulations and keep internal practices aligned with current legal and compliance standards.
  • Carry out recurring payroll reviews to protect data accuracy, strengthen controls, and implement process enhancements where needed.
  • Handle benefit deductions and tax withholding calculations, ensuring they are completed correctly, reported properly, and kept strictly confidential.
  • Prepare payroll-related finance entries and reconcile general ledger accounts as part of month-end reporting.
  • Resolve payroll matters escalated by the Support Operations team when they need additional expertise.
  • Take part in cross-functional initiatives and operational improvements that contribute to stronger payroll and Finance workflows.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate has deep payroll experience in Germany and is comfortable operating in a fast-moving, deadline-driven environment. Strong ownership, accuracy, and the ability to work independently are essential, along with clear communication and teamwork across multiple functions.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of payroll experience in Germany, with solid knowledge of local tax rules and payroll regulations.
  • Hands-on familiarity with HRIS and payroll tools such as P&I Loga.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to meet strict deadlines without close supervision.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with Finance, People, and other teams.
  • A proactive, improvement-oriented mindset with a focus on refining payroll processes.
  • Strong English fluency is required; German language skills are an advantage.

Perks and Benefits

  • Opportunity to join a company recognized for its commitment to social impact.
  • Annual salary between €70,000 and €90,000, plus equity; the final offer depends on experience, knowledge, and skills.
  • For Berlin-based employees, access to an office in Chausseestraße, with weekly team lunches and breakfast.
  • Urban Sports Club membership.
  • Company pension plan (bAV) with a 20% employer contribution.
  • 30 vacation days per year.
