Role overview
Townsville City Council is seeking a Parking Officer to join its Planning, Environment & Lifestyle team within Environmental Health & Regulation. This is a permanent full-time position based in Townsville, Queensland, with a 9-day fortnight and 36.25 hours per week.
The position is classified at LGO3, with a salary of $78,412 to $84,646 per annum plus superannuation, depending on skills, qualifications, and experience. Applications close at 11:45pm on Thursday 16 July 2026.
What you will do
In this role, you will help deliver parking and compliance services that support safe, efficient traffic movement across the CBD and nearby areas. The work includes applying parking rules fairly, handling abandoned vehicle matters, and assisting with compliance tasks in campgrounds.
You will also respond quickly to service requests and customer questions, offer practical guidance, and build effective working relationships with stakeholders. Supporting parking arrangements for major events will also form part of the role.
Working with other regulatory teams, you will contribute to ongoing improvement, exchange knowledge with colleagues, and keep your skills current through training and development.
About you
The Council is looking for someone with experience in regulatory or enforcement environments, along with a solid understanding of parking laws and relevant legislation. You should be confident gathering evidence, making fair decisions, and managing work independently.
Strong communication is important, including the ability to handle difficult conversations professionally. You will also need intermediate computer skills, accurate data entry ability, good time management, and strong prioritisation skills.
A current unrestricted Queensland Class C driver’s licence is required.
Working conditions and additional information
This position is permanent full time and operates on a 9-day fortnight. The role is based in Townsville.
Shortlisted and successful candidates must complete drug and alcohol testing as part of the recruitment process. The Council maintains a zero-tolerance approach to drugs and alcohol in the workplace.
