Role overview

The Operations Technician will help ensure the power station runs safely, reliably, and efficiently in line with grid requirements and the customer contract. The role includes taking emergency action when needed, maintaining close familiarity with turbine and balance-of-plant systems, supporting frontline maintenance tasks, and helping the Team Leader release plant equipment for maintenance. Work will be carried out across the field, the permit office, and the central control room.

  • Keep the station operating within customer PPA limits.
  • Recognize changes from normal operating conditions and respond with the correct corrective action, either from the control room or on site.
  • Watch plant and process performance to make sure operations remain within approved procedures.
  • Carry out field inspection rounds and help maintain equipment through routine interventions.
  • Track generation profiles issued by the grid control centre and comply with all national grid instructions.
  • Escalate matters outside the shift team’s scope or authority to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Keep operating logs, schedules, and reports current with accurate plant data.
  • Raise unsafe conditions, incidents, and hazards with the Shift Supervisor.
  • Support routine testing of plant and equipment.
  • Record defects and supporting information in the computerized maintenance management system so repairs can be arranged.
  • Work strictly to operating procedures and instructions, and report any gaps or deficiencies identified.
  • After appropriate training and competency, assist with applying LOTO for permit-to-work preparation.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Practical engineering background in electrical or mechanical discipline, a relevant trade, or substantial equivalent experience.
  • Ability to speak and write fluently in the local language and English.
  • Quick learner who can work independently.
  • Strong people skills and a team-oriented approach.
  • Comfortable working under pressure and making critical decisions when required.
  • Prepared to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be eligible to work in Ireland.

Preferred experience

  • Responsive, proactive, flexible, and calm under pressure.
