Reporting to the Asset & Planning Manager, you will act as the network’s on-the-ground observer, helping maintain an accurate view of asset condition across the transport system. The role involves coordinating inspections, identifying defects, and assisting with maintenance delivery across the contract area.

This is a practical, field-based position where your work will inform investment decisions and help protect long-term asset value.

Key duties

  • Assess asset condition and suggest suitable treatment options to support long-term value
  • Investigate customer complaints related to transport assets and prepare reports
  • Assist with maintenance planning, work programmes, and claims
  • Provide support for projects across network operations and contracts
  • Liaise with contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver work effectively
  • Monitor contract compliance and help with pricing and quotations
  • Keep asset records and changes accurately updated
  • Promote a Zero Harm culture through safe and quality-focused work practices

Skills and experience

  • Background in asset management, network maintenance, roading, or civil construction is preferred
  • Demonstrated capability in network inspection, defect identification, and treatment selection
  • Experience working within a Zero Harm environment
  • Comfort using AWM or comparable systems, along with field-based technology
  • Strong planning and organisational ability
  • Proactive, practical, and solutions-oriented approach
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Careful, systematic, and detail-driven work style
  • Commitment to improvement and innovation

Salary and benefits

The salary is circa $80,000, depending on skills and experience.

  • Flexible-by-choice working policy
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Two wellbeing days each year
  • Free health insurance through Unimed, including hospital/surgery cover and discounted family membership rates
  • Free annual health checks and flu vaccinations
  • Option to buy additional annual leave
  • Reimbursement for eye testing and glasses costs
