About the Role
This Manufacturing Engineering Technician position, reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, is based at ABB’s Smart Power facility in Napier, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. This facility is a global center of excellence for power conditioning technologies, recognized for its innovation and export achievements. The role is crucial in supporting maintenance activities to ensure products meet stringent quality, cost, and production capacity standards. You will collaborate closely with Research & Development and Agile teams, providing essential technical input and maintaining effective communication with Supply Chain Management and Production. A key aspect of the role involves hands-on participation in new product development, including assembling prototypes and evaluating new design concepts.
Key Responsibilities
- Spearhead the development and management of engineering modifications for existing products, ensuring meticulous upkeep of technical documentation such as 3D models, schematics, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and assembly instructions.
- Formulate production project specifications and translate cutting-edge R&D advancements into market-ready products capable of mass production.
- Lead comprehensive investigations into production issues in partnership with Quality and Process teams.
- Offer direct, practical assistance to production lines, ensuring that assembly and packaging guidelines are consistently up-to-date.
- Uphold rigorous standards for documentation control to enhance manufacturing efficiency and product dependability.
Qualifications and Skills
- A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience, coupled with a keen eye for detail.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling software, such as SolidWorks or comparable tools.
- Competence in 2D drafting applications, including AutoCAD.
- Strong capabilities in both written and verbal communication.
- Familiarity with SAP and prior exposure to power electronics equipment are considered advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to execute technical tasks and manage documentation with precision and efficiency.
