What the role involves
The Laundry Attendant handles the day-to-day processing of hotel linens, towels, uniforms, and guest laundry. The job requires making sure every item is cleaned to hotel standards, returned on schedule, and managed in a safe and efficient manner. The position also helps keep laundry operations running smoothly by caring for equipment, following established procedures, and keeping the workspace tidy and well arranged.
Operational duties
- Separate, wash, dry, fold, and press linens, towels, uniforms, and guest laundry according to set procedures.
- Check items for stains, damage, and cleanliness, and report missing or damaged pieces to the Laundry Supervisor.
- Use chemicals, detergents, and equipment correctly and in line with safety and brand requirements.
- Safely load and unload laundry machines.
- Keep up with daily output needs and support hotel operations by staying on schedule.
- Assist with guest laundry by tagging, washing, drying, pressing, and packing items.
- Move finished laundry to assigned storage areas or floors as directed.
- Work in line with departmental rules, policies, and procedures.
Cleanliness and safety
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and hazard-free laundry area.
- Follow hygiene, health, and safety practices, including proper handling of chemicals and equipment.
- Promptly inform the Laundry Supervisor or Manager about equipment problems, maintenance needs, or safety concerns.
- Take part in safety training, including emergency response and chemical-handling instruction.
- Use personal protective equipment properly.
Equipment and inventory support
- Operate laundry machines such as washers, dryers, ironers, and folders safely and correctly.
- Carry out basic daily cleaning and upkeep of equipment.
- Track linen levels and report shortages or unusual wear and tear.
- Support linen inventory checks when needed.
Experience and education
A post-secondary degree or diploma is required. Previous experience in laundry or housekeeping is considered an advantage. The employer is looking for someone who can learn laundry equipment quickly or already knows how to use it, understands fabric care and stain treatment, follows instructions well, works independently, and maintains quality standards. Basic communication and teamwork skills are also important.
Physical requirements
This job requires long periods of standing and walking throughout the shift. The role involves lifting, carrying, and handling heavy laundry loads, including repeated lifting in and out of machines. Candidates must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and push or pull up to 100 lbs. Exposure to cleaning chemicals is part of the work, and PPE must be used. Flexible availability is needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
