About the role
Charles IT is expanding and is looking to bring on a Junior Systems Administrator to join its team in Chesapeake, Virginia. This position is focused on handling the first tier of tickets once they are escalated to the team. It plays an important part in keeping IT systems operating reliably while helping develop the skills needed for more advanced support responsibilities over time. The role centers on setting up and removing user accounts and computers, as well as resolving routine day-to-day issues at the first level of support.
Responsibilities
- Identify and fix problems related to hardware, software, and network connectivity.
- Support multiple operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and macOS.
- Administer user accounts through tools such as Active Directory.
- Help install, configure, and troubleshoot software.
- Provide foundational networking support such as IP setup, DNS, and VPN assistance.
- Set up, install, and maintain desktops, laptops, printers, and other peripherals.
- Work with outside vendors and internal IT teams to coordinate repairs, updates, and troubleshooting.
- Deliver prompt and professional support to end users.
- Explain technical issues clearly to non-technical users.
- Keep documentation and time records accurate and up to date.
- Develop strong client relationships and help maintain high satisfaction levels.
- Handle concerns calmly and professionally, including de-escalating difficult situations.
- Complete other assigned duties as needed.
Requirements
- An associate degree or bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a closely related field.
- At least 2 years of experience is preferred.
- Certifications such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, Server+, CySA+, MS-900, AZ-900, or ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity are listed as relevant.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities and work well with a fast-moving, client-oriented team.
- Comfort with challenges in a growing business that serves a varied client base.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision.
- Strong organization and close attention to detail.
