Junior SOC Analyst

Role overview

This position is for an entry-level Security Operations Centre analyst based in Auckland, New Zealand. The role sits within a growing cybersecurity team and is designed for someone who is enthusiastic about defensive security, enjoys solving problems, and wants practical experience in a fast-moving environment. The job follows a rotating schedule of 4 days working, 4 days off, with 10-hour shifts. The work model is hybrid, with 2 days each week spent in the Auckland office.

Compensation is listed at NZD 70,000 to NZD 90,000 per year, depending on experience, along with career growth opportunities, mentorship, and learning support.

Key duties

• Track and review security alerts across SIEM, EDR, IDS, and related monitoring systems.
• Carry out first-level assessment and investigation of suspicious events and incidents.
• Use documented procedures and playbooks to evaluate, prioritise, and escalate threats.
• Keep clear, accurate records of investigations, incidents, and any remediation work.
• Assist senior analysts during incident response activities.
• Support investigations involving networks and endpoints under supervision.
• Take part in threat detection work, analysis tasks, and process-improvement initiatives.
• Help refine SOC workflows, procedures, and day-to-day operations.
• Participate in training and knowledge-sharing to strengthen technical capability.

• Practical experience gained through labs, personal projects, internships, university coursework, or CTF competitions.
