Description de l'emploi
About the role
Selwyn District Council is seeking an Information Operations Specialist to take responsibility for the governance of one of the organisation’s most important assets: its information. This is a high-impact position within the Digital team, reporting to the Information Manager, and it is suited to someone who can help move the council from reactive compliance toward proactive, risk-based information governance.
As the district grows and digital complexity increases, this role will help shape how information is managed across the council. You will work closely with business teams to strengthen accountability, improve information culture, and ensure governance is built into everyday practice.
What you will do
- Set, maintain and apply information governance standards, policies and frameworks across the organisation.
- Take ownership of Public Records Act compliance, including retention and disposal authorities and the evidence needed for audits.
- Spot opportunities to streamline processes, reduce manual work and lower information-related risk.
- Deliver practical advice and training to staff and leaders on information management responsibilities.
- Partner with ICT, Legal, Risk and business leaders to embed governance into systems, projects and service design.
About you
You are an experienced information management professional with strong working knowledge of the Public Records Act. Rather than treating compliance as a box-ticking exercise, you know how to make it workable, relevant and valuable. You can build trust with business stakeholders, explain complex matters in straightforward terms, and help raise the standard of information care across an organisation.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in information management, records management or information governance.
- A demonstrated history of advising business teams on IM obligations and good practice.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Information Management, Records Management, Archives, Information Studies or Public Administration.
- Experience in local government or central government is preferred.
- Experience working with Legal, Privacy and Risk teams is preferred.
What we offer
- A supportive work environment with flexibility and strong work-life balance.
- Career coaching and professional development opportunities.
- Life insurance.
- Wellbeing leave and volunteer leave.
- Three paid days off between Christmas and New Year.
- Two weeks of paid Partner’s Leave.
- Sick leave available from your first day.
- Ongoing KiwiSaver contributions during savings suspension.
- Discounts with a range of local and national businesses.
