The organization is a major retail cooperative known for serving communities across the United States and internationally with a broad assortment of home improvement, hardware, and outdoor living products. It emphasizes customer service, local entrepreneurship, teamwork, integrity, and continuous employee development.

About the role

This HR Coordinator position supports the Retail Support Center’s Human Resources function by handling day-to-day administrative work and helping keep HR operations aligned with internal policies and legal obligations. The role includes payroll support, employee relations, benefits administration, HR reporting, and general coordination across programs that contribute to a stable and positive workplace. The position reports to the HR Manager and works closely with leadership and staff.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and audit weekly payroll and incentive reporting to maintain accuracy and compliance.
  • Process manual pay checks and verify that premiums and shift differentials are applied correctly.
  • Administer employee benefits such as vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay to ensure timely and correct payments.
  • Create and review workday-based reports covering labor hours, daily and weekly time, time-off data, missed punches, and overtime.
  • Support accounts receivable and accounts payable tasks.
  • Help enforce company policies and manage communication data cards.
  • Promote a healthy employee relations climate by supporting performance standards and leading through example.
  • Handle leave-of-absence requests and coordinate travel arrangements for emergency response needs when required.
  • Support onboarding by coordinating new-hire benefits orientation and enrollment.
  • Respond to employee questions about benefits and assist during annual open enrollment.
  • Act as the Wellness Champion and encourage wellness-related initiatives across the organization.
  • Join recurring online meetings and serve as a contact for HR policies, programs, and related initiatives.
  • Respond quickly and professionally to teammate questions and concerns.
  • Keep HR files organized, order office supplies, and maintain bulletin boards, employee communications, and event materials.
  • Coordinate employee recognition activities, including merchandise ordering and event logistics.
  • Stay informed about employment laws and regulations relevant to Arizona and California.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent; a bachelor’s degree, especially with an HR focus, is preferred. The role calls for 2–3 years of HR experience and a practical understanding of employment law and regulatory compliance. PHR or SPHR certification is an advantage. Strong skills in MS Office are required, and experience with HRIS platforms such as Workday is preferred. Candidates should bring excellent communication and relationship-building abilities, strong attention to detail, confidentiality, a service-oriented mindset, and the ability to manage several priorities at once.

Benefits

Employees receive weekly pay, paid time off including vacation, sick leave, and holidays with prorated allocations for new hires, plus medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance coverage for employees and dependents. The company offers a 401(k) plan with full vesting of matching contributions in the first year, along with quarterly and discretionary contributions that have averaged 10% of eligible compensation over the last five years. Career development support includes the Dock to Driver Program, which covers CDL licensing and training.

Additional benefits include tuition reimbursement, employee recognition programs, discounts on brands such as Weber, Traeger, Yeti, Craftsman, and DeWalt, an Employee Assistance Program with free access to therapists and legal advisors, adoption cost reimbursement, wellness initiatives, and opportunities for long-term growth across distribution centers and corporate headquarters.

Equal opportunity employment

The employer maintains an inclusive hiring approach and does not discriminate based on race, religion, color, sex, gender identity, national origin, age, marital status, disability, military or veteran status, sexual orientation, or other legally protected characteristics.
