Role Summary
The General Helper plays an important support role within the kitchen team. Working across different shifts during the day, this person helps keep kitchen operations moving efficiently in a remote camp environment. The job is based in a camp setting and includes provided meals, accommodations, and transportation from designated locations.
Camp Amenities
- Meals and lodging are included.
- Transport is arranged to and from the site from designated pickup points in Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Dryden, and nearby areas.
- A private room with cable television is provided.

Core Duties
The position focuses on keeping the kitchen clean, organized, stocked, and ready for service. Duties shift depending on the time of day and operational needs.
- Keep work areas neat and orderly throughout the shift, including dining spaces, lunchrooms, serving areas, dishwashing zones, the main kitchen, and storage rooms.
- Sweep and mop floors regularly, including cooler and storage areas.
- Replenish food, beverage, and disposable/paper supplies as needed.
- Remove garbage, cardboard, and recyclable materials in a timely manner.
- Ensure products are correctly labeled, dated, and rotated for service.
- Assist with food preparation when required.
- Accept and store deliveries such as food, beverages, chemicals, and disposable supplies.
Candidate Profile
The ideal applicant should be comfortable working in a large kitchen or camp-style setting, able to manage multiple tasks, and willing to work as part of a team focused on client satisfaction. This role requires a commitment to a 2-week on / 2-week off rotation and may involve nights, weekends, weekdays, and public holidays.
Additional Requirements
- Experience in large-scale kitchen support, particularly in camps, banquet venues, or hotels, is considered an advantage.
- Having current Food Safe certification is helpful.
- A successful criminal background check is mandatory.
- A valid government-issued photo ID is required for travel to the site.
- The role involves physical work, including lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 lbs.
- The job may require climbing stairs or ladders.
- Candidates must be able to stand, walk, squat, kneel, or sit for long periods depending on the task.
- Repetitive hand activity using both hands is part of the work.
- Work may need to be performed with arms fully extended or above shoulder level.
Schedule and Pay
This is a rotational position with a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off schedule. Site access may involve air travel or shuttle transport by ground. The starting wage is $19.10 per hour.
