Description de l'emploi

Overview

Canterbury City Council is seeking a Facilities Management Co-ordinator to support its Facilities Management function in Canterbury, Kent. This is a permanent full-time post within a team that handles a broad mix of property-related services, including repairs and maintenance, health and safety, and compliance across offices, social housing, museums, and heritage properties.

The council is looking for someone who wants to build a career in facilities management and develop practical knowledge by working across multiple teams. The role offers exposure to a wide range of FM activities and the opportunity to deepen understanding of how the service operates in a local government setting.

What the role involves

You will provide coordination and administrative support to the wider FM team, helping to keep day-to-day work organised and ensuring key tasks move forward smoothly.

  • Support responses to housing tenant complaints by collecting information from contractors and the housing repairs team.
  • Arrange training sessions by coordinating with trainers, teams, venues, and suitable dates.
  • Help gather and organise data used for key performance indicators.
  • Take notes during contract and team meetings.
  • Maintain well-structured team folders and accurate records.

Working pattern and contract details

  • Permanent contract.
  • Full-time role of 37 hours per week.
  • Working days are Monday to Friday, with bank holidays excluded.
  • The position is mainly home-based, with office attendance for meetings and collaborative work when needed.
  • Access to council office space is available when appropriate.

Pay and benefits

  • Starting salary in the region of £33,622.29 per year.
  • Annual cost-of-living pay increases are negotiated each year.
  • Flexible hybrid working to support work-life balance.
  • 23 days of annual leave, increasing with service, plus bank holidays.
  • Three additional given days, typically taken over the Christmas period when the main offices are closed.
  • Option to purchase extra annual leave.
  • No work on bank holidays.
  • Local government pension scheme.
  • Training and development support, including professional body membership fees where essential to the post.
  • Retail and lifestyle discounts through employee perks.
  • Free use of Canterbury Park and Ride, flexi bus tickets, and cycle-to-work support.
  • Access to counselling, advice, and webinars through the employee assistance programme.
  • Contribution toward flu jabs.

Knowledge, experience, and skills

The council is looking for someone with relevant knowledge and hands-on experience in a similar environment, ideally involving housing repairs and building projects. Familiarity with social housing complaints and an understanding of repair-related issues will be valuable, and awareness of damp and mould legislation would be an advantage.

You should be comfortable working with information from different sources, building strong working relationships across teams, and taking minutes in operational meetings. Strong IT ability is important, particularly across Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint. The role also calls for clear communication, flexibility, accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to stay effective in a busy or pressurised setting.

Additional requirements

  • A basic DBS check is required before appointment due to the nature of the role.

Equality and recruitment process

Canterbury City Council says it is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, and aims to provide a welcoming environment where people are respected and valued. Applications are anonymised during shortlisting so candidates are assessed purely on merit.

Closing date

This vacancy closes on 26 June 2026.
