Director Data Scientist

Role overview

This is a senior technical leadership position focused on delivering transformative AI and generative AI solutions for major Telecommunications and Financial Services clients. The role is centered on solution delivery and stakeholder collaboration rather than sales, requiring close engagement with business leaders to solve complex problems through AI.

You will lead a growing AI consulting capability, shape strategy, guide senior technical teams, and partner with executives to identify high-impact opportunities and drive enterprise AI roadmaps. The position involves overseeing complex machine learning and GenAI programmes that are expected to create measurable business value.

Key responsibilities

• Direct cross-functional groups of Data Scientists, ML Engineers, Data Engineers, and AI Architects.
• Steer the design and delivery of enterprise-grade machine learning and generative AI solutions from concept to production.
• Promote strong engineering and governance practices across machine learning, deep learning, LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, AI agents, prompt engineering, MLOps, responsible AI, and model governance.
• Shape technical architecture decisions across cloud-based AI platforms and modern AI ecosystems.
• Build AI solutions for Telecommunications use cases such as customer value management, churn prediction, next best action, network analytics, customer experience, personalisation, and revenue optimisation.
• Build AI solutions for Financial Services use cases such as fraud detection, credit risk, customer analytics, wealth management, insurance analytics, AML, personalisation, and intelligent operations.
• Coach and develop senior data scientists and technical leaders.
• Create delivery methods, reusable accelerators, and technical standards for AI and GenAI engagements.
• Recruit and help scale a world-class AI talent pool.
• Work with executive stakeholders and boards, including supporting business development and revenue growth efforts.

Experience and qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or another quantitative discipline.
• 12 to 15+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or artificial intelligence.
• At least 5 years of experience leading enterprise AI consulting engagements.
• Strong track record of delivering AI programmes for large Telecommunications or Financial Services organisations.
• Experience managing sizable consulting teams and complex client relationships.
• Comfort presenting to executive leadership and board-level audiences.
• Commercially minded with exposure to business development and revenue expansion.
