Design Engineer (Production Support)

About the Role

Sandvik Mining & Rock Technology India Pvt. Ltd., part of the Sandvik Group, is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to support mining equipment design and engineering activities in Pune. The role focuses on developing optimized CAD models, manufacturing drawings and bills of materials, while helping improve drawing quality and supporting multiple engineering functions across current product engineering, new product development and order-based work.

What You Will Do

• Contribute to the design and development of mining equipment and related subsystems.
• Create subsystem designs and choose suitable components.
• Drive continuous improvement work such as RCA, DFMA and DFMEA.
• Improve joint development processes by using appropriate databases and design tools effectively.
• Record deviations related to production and sourcing, and raise problem reports when needed.
• Prepare BOMs, ECNs and drawing releases for production use.
• Make sure item data management requirements are met for Sandvik Mining products.
• Support prototyping, validation and testing of equipment.
• Help ensure quality and delivery from an engineering perspective.
• Work closely with sourcing, production, quality and engineering teams to understand needs and propose solutions.
• Present findings, results and ideas clearly to decision-makers.

Requirements

• A university degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• 3 to 5 years of relevant experience as a Mechanical Engineer.
• Ability to describe mechanical systems in specific application areas.
• Experience in analysing mechanical systems.
• Capability to select mechanical components based on performance, cost and service factors.
• Good understanding of international standards such as ISO, IEC and ANSI, especially for welds and GD&T.
• Knowledge of sizing and selection of mechanical components.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems and suggest practical solutions.
• Working knowledge of ISO drafting standards for technical drawings.
• Basic understanding of mechanical interfaces with systems.
• Exposure to UG/NX and Teamcenter in an integrated environment; AutoCAD knowledge will be an added benefit.
• Sound understanding of working principles of components such as bearings, transmissions, axles, engines and coolers.
• Willingness to work in Pune.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with varied teams and stakeholders.
• Capability to build and maintain productive working relationships.
