Compliance Specialist

Role overview

The Compliance Specialist supports the organization in meeting legal, regulatory, policy, and governance obligations. This position focuses on monitoring controls, spotting risk areas, and helping maintain compliance across business units in a regulated utilities setting.

What you will do

• Keep track of applicable requirements from relevant regulators, including those covering energy, water, and gas, and ensure business units remain aligned.
• Carry out scheduled compliance reviews and internal control checks to confirm adherence to policies, procedures, and governance standards.
• Detect, assess, and record compliance risks, then help shape and carry out mitigation actions with business teams.
• Support the rollout and ongoing improvement of compliance policies, procedures, and frameworks in line with regulatory expectations and industry practice.
• Examine internal policies, procedures, and day-to-day practices to verify they meet regulatory and corporate governance requirements.
• Work with internal teams such as Operations, Technical Services, and Corporate Services to close compliance gaps and complete corrective actions on time.
• Prepare and keep updated compliance reports, dashboards, and supporting records for management, internal audit, and regulator-facing inspections.
• Monitor regulatory developments, evaluate how changes affect the organization, and assist with implementation of required updates.
• Assist with internal and external audits by sharing documents, evidence, and explanations connected to compliance matters.
• Help build compliance awareness through training, communication, and guidance for employees on regulations and policy requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of compliance work, risk logs, and control assessments so the organization remains audit-ready and traceable.
• Escalate breaches, control gaps, and regulatory exposures to management promptly and in a structured way.
• Uphold governance principles such as confidentiality, integrity, and ethical conduct in line with regulatory expectations.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Law, Business Administration, Finance, Risk Management, or a related discipline is required.
• Professional certifications are preferred, such as CCEP, CIA, or CRMA, though they are not mandatory for the minimum qualification.
• At least 6 years of relevant experience in compliance, governance, risk, or internal audit is required.
• Experience in utilities, energy, infrastructure, or other regulated industries in Saudi Arabia is preferred.
• Exposure to regulatory frameworks and compliance monitoring is an advantage.
• Strong command of both spoken and written Arabic and English is essential.
• Solid understanding of compliance frameworks, internal controls, and governance practices is expected.
• Ability to analyze issues, solve problems, communicate effectively, manage stakeholders, and balance multiple priorities in a regulated environment is needed.
• Candidates should be capable of working independently while staying aligned with organizational objectives.
