Description de l'emploi

Company Overview

WayaBank is a digital-first bank built for the way people in Nigeria live and do business. It delivers a complete banking experience without queues or paperwork, enabling individuals and organizations to open accounts in minutes, move money instantly, settle bills, request loans, and use POS and agency banking services directly from a phone. The platform is designed to serve all Nigerians, including rural communities and people working in the informal economy, with financial services that are dependable, affordable, and respectful. As part of the wider WayaLinks ecosystem, alongside WayaGram and WayaQuick, the company offers a mission-oriented environment where technology is used to advance financial inclusion and create real impact.

Role Summary

The Chief Technology Officer will be responsible for shaping and driving WayaBank’s technology direction, strategy, and delivery. This is a full-time hybrid position covering software engineering, systems architecture, infrastructure, and security to support a banking platform that is stable, scalable, and aligned with compliance requirements. The role involves working closely with product, operations, compliance, and business functions to ensure technology decisions support customer needs and regulatory obligations. The CTO will steer development priorities, influence technical design, improve engineering practices, and help deliver high-quality features on time. The position also includes mentoring technology leaders, managing external technology partners, and monitoring new technologies to keep the organization competitive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set and communicate the long-term technology direction for the bank.
  • Lead engineering, architecture, infrastructure, and security efforts across the platform.
  • Coordinate with product, operations, compliance, and business teams to align technical plans with business and regulatory needs.
  • Own development roadmaps and make prioritization decisions that support timely delivery.
  • Guide major technical choices, including system design, integrations, and platform improvements.
  • Strengthen engineering workflows and ensure delivery of reliable, high-quality products.
  • Coach and develop technology leaders and remote engineering teams.
  • Oversee relationships with vendors, partners, and other technology stakeholders.
  • Track emerging technologies and assess opportunities to improve the bank’s capability and market position.

Qualifications

Applicants should bring a strong background in software development and have experience leading engineering teams that build secure, scalable financial or fintech products. The role calls for solid project management capability, including roadmap planning, prioritization, and coordination across functions in fast-moving environments. Candidates should be able to define and execute an IT strategy that supports growth, resilience, and compliance. Experience with cloud-based architecture, APIs, integrations, and security standards is important, as is a product-oriented mindset for turning customer and business needs into technical solutions. Strong leadership is needed to build, support, and retain distributed high-performing teams. Familiarity with digital banking, payments, or fintech in emerging markets is valuable, and knowledge of Nigerian financial regulations is an added advantage. Clear communication and sound judgment are essential for balancing innovation, operational needs, and risk.

Education

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline is preferred, though equivalent practical experience is also acceptable.

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to experienced technology leaders who can work in a full-time hybrid setup and are equipped to lead remote teams. Candidates should be comfortable operating in a fintech or banking environment and contributing to a mission focused on financial inclusion in Nigeria.
