Position Overview
The Certified Procedure Coder will examine provider documentation and translate it into accurate CPT, ICD-10, and modifier assignments for professional services. This role also supports provider education on coding, handles daily billing-related tasks, and carries out additional responsibilities assigned by the Practice Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Review clinical notes in the electronic medical record, spot missing or incomplete documentation, and follow up with providers to get it completed.
- Select the correct ICD-10 and CPT codes for professional services.
- Apply modifiers where they are appropriate.
- Check provider audits and make corrections when warranted.
- Educate providers on coding and billing practices.
- Process charge corrections.
- Coordinate daily billing activities with PBS.
- Keep coding knowledge current and maintain certification status.
- Work with minimal supervision and manage tasks independently.
- Oversee denied claim management.
- Complete any other duties assigned by the Practice Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Candidate must hold either CPC or CCS-P certification.
- No prior experience is required for the minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree is preferred.
- At least 2 years of billing and coding experience is preferred.
