Cafeteria Worker

Role overview

This position supports food service operations at the assigned school site. The role centers on preparing and serving meals for students and school staff while keeping kitchen and cafeteria areas clean, safe, and sanitary.

Core duties

• Take part in in-service sessions, workshops, and other training opportunities to stay updated on job requirements.
• Clean linens, utensils, equipment, food storage spaces, and meal preparation and serving areas to maintain proper sanitation.
• Keep equipment, storage spaces, preparation areas, and serving stations in sanitary condition in line with health standards.
• Display and serve food and beverage items so students and staff can be served efficiently.
• Watch over kitchen and cafeteria operations, including item charging procedures, employee safety, and work practices, to help maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
• Assist with other nutrition-services tasks when requested by the manager, including cashiering, to ensure adequate staffing at the site.
• Prepare food and beverages using standard recipes and approved preparation methods, including regular menu items, deli sandwiches, and baked goods, to meet required meal counts and nutrition standards.
• Report supply needs and equipment problems to the cafeteria manager so shortages, repairs, or replacements can be addressed.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned to support smooth and effective department operations.

Physical requirements

The job requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Working expectations

The position is based on-site at the assigned location and may include cross-training or coverage across different nutrition-service functions as needed.
