About the Role

The University of Canterbury’s Facilities Management team is seeking a permanent full-time Building Controls Service Technician to support the performance of intelligent building systems across a large and technically diverse campus in Ōtautahi Christchurch. This position is onsite and involves 40 hours of work per week.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you will help keep building management systems, HVAC control systems, lighting controls, and electrical systems tied to mechanical services running safely and efficiently. The work is varied and practical, with responsibilities that can include fault diagnosis, responding to alarms, scheduled maintenance, supporting building upgrades, and contributing to energy-saving initiatives. You will collaborate closely with engineers, contractors, and trades teams to deliver modern building solutions that improve occupant comfort and building performance.

About You

The ideal candidate is a registered electrician with strong troubleshooting ability and a real interest in automation and controls technology. Experience in HVAC systems, industrial controls, or building automation will be highly valued. Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS), controls commissioning, DALI lighting controls, or energy management systems will be an advantage.
