Description de l'emploi
Company Overview
sKids has been creating fun-filled before-school and after-school experiences for children across New Zealand since 1996. The organisation now supports more than 3,800 children every day across over 170 school locations, and continues to expand.
Working here means bringing energy, creativity, and enthusiasm to each day. The role involves helping deliver activities such as art, science, sport, cooking, and games in a lively environment where every shift is different.
Role Summary
As an Assistant Programme Manager at Pillans Point, you will help make the morning and afternoon programme enjoyable and well organised for children. This is a part-time position with a minimum of 10 hours each week, scheduled Monday to Friday.
Before-school shifts run from 7:00 am to 8:30 am. After-school shifts run from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm, and availability from 2:30 pm onward is essential, although finish times may change. Additional hours may be available during school holiday programmes, typically between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.
Key Duties
You will support the Programme Manager in the daily operation of the sKids programme and help ensure activities are delivered smoothly and in a well-structured way.
You will act as the second-in-charge when needed, leading sessions and taking responsibility when the Programme Manager is absent.
You will supervise and actively engage large groups of tamariki, maintaining a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable setting throughout the programme.
You will help plan and run structured activities such as arts and crafts, sports, games, and excursions away from site.
You will assist with managing difficult behaviour by using positive guidance methods and helping maintain consistency across the team.
You will also support Programme Assistants on shift, helping them meet expectations and keeping activities on track.
Strong communication with parents, caregivers, and school staff is part of the role, along with helping with setup, pack-down, and preparation of materials so each session starts and ends smoothly.
Benefits
The role includes a 50% discount on selected sKids programmes, which can be especially useful for your own children.
You may also be eligible for a referral bonus of up to $250 for each successful referral.
With no weekend work and free time during the middle of the day, the position supports a better work-life balance.
You will also have access to an Employee Assistance Programme for wellbeing support, along with a friendly and encouraging team culture.
Eligibility and Requirements
Applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand, such as citizenship or a valid visa, and must have reliable transport to the Pillans Point site.
Experience working with groups of children is required, such as in OSCAR, childcare, coaching, teaching, camps, or similar settings. You should be comfortable stepping into a leadership role, taking initiative, and making decisions when needed.
You should also have experience or exposure to behaviour management in group settings and be able to stay calm, firm, and supportive. The role suits a team player who can both guide and assist others as needed.
Good communication with children and adults, including parents and school staff, is important. Applicants must be over 20 years old in line with the Social Security (Childcare Assistance) Regulations 2004.
Additional Information
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by the team. The organisation focuses on child protection and safeguarding, and all successful applicants must pass a satisfactory Police Record Check. Every applicant must already have the right to work in New Zealand.
