About the Opportunity

Transport and Main Roads is seeking a Surveyor to contribute to Queensland’s road network through surveying work that supports planning, design, construction and asset management. The position offers the chance to work across varied terrain, use modern geospatial tools, and be part of a collaborative team delivering important infrastructure outcomes.

About the Team and Region

The Program Delivery and Operations Central Queensland Region has offices in Rockhampton, Mackay and Barcaldine, plus a site office in Emerald. The region is responsible for 9,076 km of state-controlled roads and around 1,510 km of the National Road Network. This role supports the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP).

Role Overview

As a Surveyor, you will deliver surveying services across the full lifecycle of engineering projects for the road network. The role involves working with survey teams on a range of technical and geospatial tasks, maintaining equipment and vehicles, and helping ensure work is completed safely, to standard and within project requirements.

Key Duties

  • Support the completion of engineering survey projects so they are delivered on time, within scope and to the required quality.
  • Assist with specialised geospatial and survey projects for a variety of customers, helping achieve effective outcomes and best-practice service delivery.
  • Look after survey equipment, consumables and vehicles to keep operations running smoothly.
  • Work in line with departmental and regional policies, relevant legislation including WH&S requirements, TMR surveying standards and governance duties.

Mandatory and Desirable Qualifications

  • A minimum three-year tertiary degree in Spatial Science (Surveying) is highly regarded, or an equivalent qualification from an approved institution that is acceptable for registration as a surveyor or surveying graduate with the Surveyors Board of Queensland.
  • Applicants must provide written evidence of degree completion or SBQ acceptance at the interview stage.
  • A current Class C driver licence is required.
