Site Overview
The Youth Services Center in Washington, DC serves as the District’s detention facility for male and female youth who are placed in secure detention by order of the DC Superior Court Family Court Division.
Role Summary
The Student Support Specialist plays an essential part in helping scholars meet their academic goals by providing hands-on support in classrooms, study settings, unit-based environments, and one-on-one tutoring. This position also serves as the primary onsite substitute teaching support when needed.
Key Duties
- Assist in classrooms and study hall sessions by giving students academic support during assigned periods.
- Support learners enrolled in computer-based classes according to their individual schedules and needs.
- Recognize different learning styles and adjust instructional approaches accordingly.
- Step in as a substitute teacher for the instructional team when classroom coverage is required.
- Handle administrative tasks with professionalism, accuracy, and integrity.
- Take part in interdisciplinary internal team meetings.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required.
- Previous experience working with opportunity youth or justice-involved youth is preferred.

Pay is aligned with comparable public charter schools in the Washington, DC area. Compensation Range
The salary range for this position is USD 55,000 to USD 65,000 per year.
