Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) sits at the core of Microsoft’s cloud direction. The platform powers authentication, authorization, and directory services used by millions of Azure, Office 365, Xbox, and Windows users around the world. In a cloud-first environment, sign-in and sign-up form the entry point to dependable access for Microsoft services. Azure AD supports millions of tenants, billions of identities, and billions of requests every day. The backend directory store is a key part of this architecture, and the team is evolving it for the next decade with modern storage and distributed systems technologies, plus new approaches to large-scale, high-performance problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and help own a hyperscale distributed service.
• Contribute across the full service lifecycle, from build to operation.
• Investigate complex service issues at global scale and improve reliability, latency, and resiliency.
• Drive automation initiatives for regional rollout and buildout activities.
• Strengthen service stability, engineering fundamentals, and best practices.
• Show strong customer focus, curiosity, and a willingness to learn, while taking part in live-site on-call rotations.

Qualifications

Required: A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related technical field, along with proven coding experience in one or more of C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python; or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred: Experience operating critical services at hyperscale; ability to collaborate effectively in a geographically distributed team; and the ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements. This includes passing the Microsoft background check and Microsoft Cloud background check on hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.

Compensation and additional information

The typical base salary for Software Engineering IC2 in Ireland is between €49,500 and €83,900 per year. Some roles may also qualify for benefits and additional compensation.
