Road Worker

Role overview

Transport for NSW is seeking a Road Worker to support road maintenance and incident response work that benefits communities across New South Wales. This permanent full-time position is based out of the Holbrook depot and sits within the Projects category.

The role involves hands-on outdoor work on the Hume Highway and other state roads managed by the Hume Motorway Office South. You will help deliver reliable maintenance outcomes, respond to emergencies, and contribute to a team that values quality, practical problem-solving, and public service.

Key duties

• Attend road incidents and support maintenance and emergency response activities across the Hume Highway network and related state roads.
• Complete manual and general maintenance tasks using plant, machinery, and both powered and non-powered hand tools.
• Travel throughout the region to reach worksites, respond to call-outs, and work night shifts when required.
• Follow a 9-day fortnight roster.

About you

You should be a practical, adaptable team player who is comfortable working outdoors and performing physical tasks. The role suits someone who learns quickly, pays close attention to detail, communicates well, and enjoys working collaboratively in similar environments.

Essential requirements

• Prior experience in road construction or civil construction.
• A current Construction Industry White Card.
• A current unrestricted NSW motor vehicle driver’s licence.
• Willingness to complete any licensing, training, or ticketing requirements that are required by law or directed internally.

Preferred experience

• Traffic control qualifications.
• Truck licence, from Medium Rigid through to Heavy Rigid.

Additional requirements

• You must live within 50 km of the Holbrook works depot.
• You need to be ready to work outside standard hours, attend call-outs, travel across the district, and stay away from home when necessary.
