Role summary
This is a standalone payroll position where you will take full control of a national payroll process and have a direct impact on the business’s payroll operations. The role offers flexibility, a high level of autonomy, and strong support from internal teams, making it a strong fit for a seasoned payroll professional who enjoys managing payroll end to end.

Position overview
Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will act as the main payroll contact and be responsible for the full payroll cycle for around 250 employees across several entities. This is a practical, hands-on role that requires complete ownership of payroll activities, ensuring staff are paid correctly and on time while meeting legal, tax, and internal policy requirements.
You will work closely with both Finance and HR to support the wider business with payroll expertise and to help manage the complexities of a varied workforce.
About you
You are a capable and independent payroll specialist who has already managed payroll without close supervision. You are comfortable taking accountability, finding solutions, and working well with different stakeholders. With a calm approach to deadlines, you are focused on delivering reliable, high-quality payroll outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee the full payroll cycle across multiple business entities
- Run fortnightly payroll for about 250 employees nationwide
- Administer payroll for permanent, casual, and timesheet-based staff
- Maintain compliance with applicable legislation, tax obligations, and company procedures
- Work with HR and Finance to keep employee and payroll data accurate
- Look into and fix payroll issues and respond to employee payroll questions
- Complete payroll reconciliations and reporting when needed
- Find ways to improve payroll workflows and increase efficiency
Skills, knowledge, and experience
- Proven background managing a payroll function from start to finish independently
- Confidence working unsupervised and owning payroll results
- Strong knowledge of payroll law, compliance, and current best practice
- Experience handling payroll for different employee groups and multiple entities
- Ability to juggle competing priorities and meet fixed payroll deadlines
- Good systems capability and the ability to adapt quickly to new payroll software
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and stakeholder communication skills
- Experience with Aurion Payroll would be an advantage
- Ability to provide a current National Police Clearance, or obtain one if required
