Role Overview
Australian Venue Co is hiring a Payroll Officer for its Melbourne CBD office on a permanent full-time basis. The package on offer is a $70,000 base salary plus superannuation.
This position is ideal for someone who is meticulous, service-minded, and comfortable supporting payroll operations for a large, busy workforce. You will be part of a Melbourne-based payroll team and will work alongside colleagues across People & Culture, managers, and operational teams to ensure employees are paid accurately, on time, and in line with requirements.
The role suits someone who enjoys a team environment, keeps a strong focus on accuracy, and can handle multiple priorities and deadlines with confidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage payroll from start to finish for a large employee base, making sure processing is accurate, compliant, and completed on schedule.
- Update and maintain payroll records for new hires, changes to employment details, exits, and leave movements.
- Carry out checks before and after payroll runs and look into any mismatches or errors.
- Handle payroll questions from team members and managers, offering timely and easy-to-understand support.
- Support payroll reconciliations, reporting tasks, and month-end processes.
- Spot recurring issues, mistakes, and ways to make payroll procedures more efficient.
- Partner closely with Payroll, People & Culture, and operational stakeholders.
- Protect employee information by maintaining a strict level of confidentiality.

You are organised, detail-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-moving, high-volume setting. You take responsibility for your tasks, communicate well, and understand the need to balance precision, deadlines, and excellent service.

Experience and Systems
- Minimum of two years' experience in payroll or a similar role, ideally in a high-volume environment.
- Working understanding of Australian payroll rules and requirements.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook.
- Experience with Workday, Micropay, or a comparable payroll platform.
- Exposure to Humanforce or another time and attendance system is an advantage.
- Background in hospitality, retail, or another large operational workforce setting is highly regarded.
