Role Overview
This position is responsible for handling day-to-day laundry and light housekeeping tasks so residents receive clean linen and clothing while the nursing home is kept clean, hygienic, and free from unpleasant odors.
Key Duties
- Ensure a steady supply of freshly laundered linen so residents have the comfort and care they need.
- Inspect linens for damage or staining and remove items from use when they are no longer fit for service.
- Gather residents’ laundry on a daily basis, or more often when required.
- Mark newly received resident clothing items as needed.
- Sort, pre-treat, wash, dry, and fold clothing and linens.
- Distribute cleaned laundry back to resident rooms.
- Follow all sanitation rules and procedures tied to laundry work.
- Keep laundry supply inventory stocked and organized.
- Operate laundry machines and related supplies in a careful and safe way.
- Escalate any equipment problems to the Administrator.
Supervision
This role does not include supervisory duties.
Qualifications
A GED or high school diploma is required. Previous experience of 1 year is preferred. Applicants should be able to read and follow instructions related to laundry and housekeeping procedures, use basic math, and solve routine problems or ask for help when needed. No certifications or licenses are required.
Physical Requirements
The job may involve occasional lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds. Work also includes regular sitting, standing, walking, speaking, reading, and listening, along with frequent use of industrial washers, dryers, and similar equipment.
Work Environment
The noise level in this workplace is typically low to moderate.
