Junior Business Intelligence (BI) Report Developer

As a junior BI developer, you will help create and maintain Power BI reports and related data solutions that support informed decision-making across the organisation. The role is designed to build core technical capability while also strengthening report design, usability and visual presentation. You will work alongside senior colleagues and business stakeholders to turn requirements into practical, engaging and easy-to-use reports, while adhering to internal governance, compliance and data standards.

What you will do

• Assist with designing, building and maintaining Power BI dashboards and reports that meet business needs.
• Apply strong visual design principles, including layout, hierarchy, colour and accessibility, to produce clear and user-friendly reporting outputs.
• Support the use of governance, security and privacy controls in report development and help identify data quality concerns through audit and validation activities.
• Contribute to SQL queries, data transformations and Power BI data models, while assisting with testing and basic optimisation work.
• Respond to user questions with guidance from the BI team and escalate issues when needed.
• Help with requirements gathering and user training activities.
• Create and maintain documentation such as data definitions, business rules and user guides.
• Follow BI standards, frameworks and best practices, ensuring requirements, testing and approvals are properly recorded.
• Support project work by completing assigned tasks, taking part in UAT and meeting agreed deadlines.
• Collaborate with IT colleagues and wider business teams, sharing knowledge and contributing to continuous improvement.

The BI role sits within the IT department’s Information Management area, where enterprise systems, data and analytics services are delivered and supported. You will work closely with data integration developers, application developers, business analysts and business stakeholders as part of a wider effort to improve data-driven decision-making and establish a single source of truth.

Candidate profile

This role is suited to someone with up to 2 years of experience in BI development, data analysis or a similar field, ideally with exposure to Power BI. A completed tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or a comparable discipline is expected.

You should have a keen interest in understanding data, business rules and reporting outcomes, along with a strong willingness to learn, take guidance and grow your technical capability. The role also calls for professionalism, good judgement and a collaborative approach when working with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desired technical exposure

• Beginner to intermediate experience with SQL/T-SQL.
• Working knowledge of relational and non-relational databases, data warehouses and data lakes.
• Exposure to Azure and Power Platform tools such as Power Apps and Power Automate.
• Familiarity with Canva design software.
• Exposure to ticketing or project tools such as JIRA or Azure DevOps.
• Exposure to Git-based version control.
