Company Overview
The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) is Uganda’s national statistics authority, created under the UBOS Act of 1998 to build and sustain a coordinated National Statistical System. It leads the collection, analysis, and release of integrated, dependable, and timely statistical data that informs national development. UBOS is focused on delivering high-quality statistics and related services to government, development partners, and the public, with the long-term goal of operating as a globally respected statistics office that supports evidence-based planning, policy formulation, and monitoring across the country.
Role Summary
This is a full-time, on-site position at UBOS offices in Kampala. The IT Specialist will be responsible for keeping the organization’s technology environment running securely and reliably, including servers, networks, and user equipment. The role requires close attention to system health, routine maintenance, incident response, and support for staff members who rely on IT services to carry out their work.
Key Responsibilities
The selected professional will oversee day-to-day IT operations, identify and fix issues across hardware, software, and network systems, and provide practical support to end users. The role also includes maintaining configurations and technical records, carrying out updates and backups, monitoring performance, and helping to improve the security and resilience of the organization’s infrastructure. In addition, the IT Specialist will support technology projects that strengthen UBOS’s ability to deliver statistical services efficiently.
Qualifications and Skills
Applicants should bring strong technical knowledge of information technology, including operating systems, computer hardware, and commonly used business software. Practical experience with network administration is important, such as working with routers, switches, network services, and performance monitoring. The role also calls for knowledge of network security, including firewall management, security controls, and data protection practices. Strong troubleshooting ability is needed to diagnose and resolve problems across systems, applications, and networks. Good customer service skills are also essential, as the role involves assisting internal users, communicating clearly, and offering guidance or basic training when required.
Education and Additional Requirements
A diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field is required. Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA, or comparable credentials are considered an advantage. The ideal candidate should be able to work well with others, follow established procedures, and adapt to changing technology requirements and organizational priorities.
About the Organization
UBOS is committed to supplying reliable statistical information and services that support planning, decision-making, and monitoring across Uganda. The organization’s work plays an important role in helping stakeholders base their actions on accurate data and sound evidence.
