Role overview
Tesla is looking for a highly driven, detail-focused Inventory Analyst to join its Inventory Control & Quality Assurance function in Tracy, California. This role sits at the center of inventory data operations in a fast-moving warehousing and logistics environment, supporting a complex, multi-node supply chain as Tesla continues to reshape its processes and systems.
The position is a mid-level technical role with responsibility for creating and supporting the data pipelines, integrations, and reporting solutions that keep inventory records accurate and reconciled. Working independently across ERP, WMS, and 3PL data sources, the analyst provides the data backbone used by Finance, Accounting, Operations, and Analytics teams. The ideal candidate combines practical data engineering experience with the ability to turn inventory and supply chain problems into dependable, scalable data solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, enhance, and support ETL/data pipeline workflows that collect, transform, and deliver inventory and quality data from internal systems, third-party logistics partners, and warehouse platforms.
- Write, tune, and maintain SQL queries, data models, and schemas that enable inventory reconciliation, operational reporting, and analytics across Finance, Operations, and Supply Chain partners.
- Help manage inventory data architecture, including warehouses and reporting layers, while keeping core datasets accurate and dependable.
- Work with Inventory Control, Analytics, and Systems teams to define data needs, diagnose mismatches, and support automated alerts for inventory exceptions and data quality issues.
- Contribute to the standardization and integration of inventory information across ERP platforms, WMS tools, and external feeds to create a single reliable source of truth.
- Build and maintain dashboards, reports, and self-service tools that help stakeholders monitor inventory health, track KPIs, and make daily operational decisions.
- Support data governance efforts, documentation, and quality standards so inventory data remains traceable, well recorded, and consistently maintained.
What the company is looking for
- 3–5 years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a similar role, preferably in supply chain, logistics, or inventory operations.
- Strong SQL skills and proficiency in at least one scripting language, with Python preferred, for automation, transformation, and pipeline work.
- Practical experience with ETL/ELT tools and pipeline frameworks such as dbt, Airflow, Spark, or similar technologies.
- Working familiarity with cloud data platforms such as Vertica, Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, or Redshift.
- Exposure to ERP or WMS systems such as SAP, Oracle, or Manhattan, and an understanding of how inventory data moves through operational systems.
- Strong analytical ability to investigate data issues, identify root causes, and explain findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience creating dashboards or reporting tools in platforms such as Tableau or Power BI is considered an advantage.
