Inspector

Overview

The Inspector in the Inspection department will carry out detailed assessments of vehicles, spot mechanical and cosmetic defects, and prepare reliable reports that support vehicle buying and selling decisions. The role calls for solid automotive expertise, a sharp eye for detail, and the ability to explain findings clearly to customers and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform full vehicle checks with support from the Assistant Inspector, covering mechanical as well as non-mechanical conditions.
• Cross-check and confirm inspection findings to keep both personal and assistant-generated assessments accurate and consistent.
• Detect, assess, and record faults clearly so that every issue is properly documented.
• Review inspection data and turn it into structured, easy-to-understand reports.
• Carry out inspections carefully and thoroughly while maintaining a high standard of accuracy.
• Walk customers through inspection results and recommendations in a way that is clear and easy to follow.
• Take part in, and at times lead, internal training sessions that strengthen team skills and knowledge.
• Support ongoing team improvement efforts through research, development, and better inspection processes.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• Diploma or certificate in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Certification in Vehicle Inspection, Automotive Diagnostics, or Motor Vehicle Mechanics.
• At least 3 years of experience in vehicle inspection, diagnostics, or repair work.
• Working knowledge of engine systems, transmission, braking, suspension, electrical systems, bodywork, and interiors.
• Understanding of pre-purchase and pre-repair vehicle inspection standards.
• Ability to use inspection tools such as OBD scanners and computer-based diagnostic equipment.
• Comfortable with manual inspection checks and digital reporting tools.
