About the company
Bending Spoons aims to build a long-lasting, highly effective business that creates exceptional value for customers and shareholders while operating with strong ethical standards. The company acquires digital products to own and improve them over the long term, making deep changes that speed up innovation, improve customer outcomes, and strengthen performance. Teams are small, talent-rich, and operate with startup-like urgency, even on established products. AI is woven into daily work so that human judgment and machine intelligence complement each other.
This role is designed for a highly capable, ambitious, and collaborative person who wants fast growth, meaningful ownership, and the chance to make a large impact early in their career.
What you will do
- Develop software with real-world impact, taking work from concept through production and owning systems used by millions of people.
- Use advanced AI tools throughout the development process, including planning, coding, testing, and documentation, to increase speed without sacrificing correctness, reliability, or maintainability.
- Work across a broad technical landscape with end-to-end ownership, selecting the right stack for the problem rather than following trends.
- Contribute across monoliths and microservices, and work with technologies such as gRPC, REST, Kubernetes, Docker, Python, and Rust.
- Continuously remove unnecessary complexity by improving architecture, deployment pipelines, and codebases so they become simpler, more scalable, and easier to maintain.
Who this role suits
- People with strong analytical and problem-solving ability who can reason from fundamentals and structure complex ideas clearly.
- Candidates with high drive, ambition, and a strong sense of ownership over outcomes.
- Team-oriented individuals who support the best solution, are dependable, candid, and willing to help wherever needed.
- Professionals who can read, write, and speak English fluently.
What is offered
- Small, highly capable, entrepreneurial teams with strong autonomy and a focus on results.
- A steep growth path with opportunities to take on major responsibilities early.
- Competitive compensation plus access to company equity for permanent roles.
- Flexible working hours, remote work options, unlimited learning and training support, strong health coverage, relocation support, parental benefits, and an annual retreat.
- A flexible joining date and the option to start part-time and move to full-time while completing a degree.
Employment terms
This is a permanent or fixed-term full-time position. The company may also allow a part-time start, with a transition to full-time later.
Location
Primary locations include Milan, London, Madrid, and Warsaw, with remote work available from eligible countries. The role is based in Berlin in the source record, but the job text specifies the listed office locations and approved remote countries as the working setup.
Selection process
The hiring process focuses on verifiable signs of excellence rather than seniority alone. All applicants are assessed through the same process, and there are no special shortcuts.
Shortlisted candidates may complete one or more challenging tests that can involve unfamiliar problems and take several hours.
The company notes that it may keep roles open for a long time or repost them if the right candidate has not yet been found.
Reasonable accommodations are available for applicants with disabilities.
Before you apply
If you have applied before and were not selected, the recommendation is to wait at least one year before applying again.
The company describes its environment as demanding and highly ambitious, with a strong emphasis on commitment and high standards. This typically leads to significant learning, achievement, and career growth.
To help new joiners ramp up, most days in the Milan office are expected during the first few months, regardless of the long-term work arrangement. Travel and accommodation support are provided for this period. After onboarding, working from an office or remotely from approved countries may be possible based on the final agreement.
Additional notes
The role may begin before graduation, and candidates are encouraged not to self-reject if they believe they can grow into the role over time.
