Role overview
This remote contract opportunity is for a geospatial specialist who will contribute domain expertise to support the training of advanced AI systems. The position focuses on high-quality spatial data work, practical geoprocessing, and clear communication of geospatial insights. Prior AI experience is not required; strong geospatial knowledge is the key requirement.
Core responsibilities
- Create, administer, and maintain spatial databases while safeguarding accuracy and consistency across different projects.
- Carry out advanced geoprocessing and spatial modeling in QGIS and turn the outputs into useful insights.
- Build, adapt, and support QGIS plugins and extensions based on project needs.
- Use Python, especially PyQGIS, to automate geospatial workflows and make processes more repeatable and efficient.
- Produce polished maps and visual materials for reports, presentations, and analytical decision-making.
- Work with cross-functional colleagues to interpret requirements and convert them into geospatial solutions.
- Explain complex technical ideas clearly in written and spoken form to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Required qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of QGIS, including spatial database handling, geoprocessing, and map creation.
- Solid Python skills, with practical experience automating QGIS tasks through PyQGIS.
- Good understanding of map projections, coordinate systems, and spatial data conversion.
- Ability to customize QGIS through scripting or plugin development.
- Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences, both technical and non-technical.
- Ability to create professional cartographic outputs suited to different decision-making needs.
- Strong organization skills and careful attention to detail when managing multiple priorities.
Preferred background
Experience in remote or distributed teams supporting external clients is helpful. Exposure to other open-source GIS tools or cloud-based geospatial platforms is also an advantage. A background in spatial analysis within environmental science, urban planning, or resource management is preferred.
